Since I’m lacking fashion friday posts (I’m actually working on something big for it, but need to get it a little more organized before I start posting) I decided I’d share some of my favorite things this Friday.
1. Rainy summer mornings – I love, love, love rainy mornings! Living in the desert, these are few and far between. Last night we had a huge storm roll through. Lightening and thunder woke us up (luckily, it didn’t wake the girls) off and on all night. This morning, I felt like it was 6am when I woke up because it was still pretty dark. It was 9:00 and my girls were still snoozing away. That’s just one reason I love a dreary morning. As soon as the girls were up, we had to go sit on the porch/dance in the rain. It’s a family tradition.
(yes, Stella in her bikini first thing this morning.)
2. Donuts – There is just something magical about getting donuts in the morning. Last week I woke up early and headed to the store to surprise everyone with fresh bakery donuts as soon as they got up. The girls were in shock. This morning as we were sitting on the back porch watching the rain, I said “Should we go get some donuts for breakfast?” It took the girls about 30 seconds to have their clothes on and be in the car. We each got to pick a donut we wanted, and then we picked a few extras to take to Brady’s work for him and the boys. On days where you’re having trouble getting started, I recommend donuts. It’s a good way to get everyone on board for the day.
4. Heaven Is Here – I’ve talked about this book before. It really is my very favorite book and I think the only book I’ve ever read more than once. I just started reading it again this week and something about it just does my heart good. It’s truly what got me started in my conversion. It’s fun reading it again, just over a year later and recognizing what a different place in my life I am. Living The Gospel has changed my life forever, for the better. Reading this book again just makes me realize that all the more.
Looking for the links for this post, I also came upon this clip that tugs at my mama heart so much. I find so much inspiration from Nienie and I’m so grateful she’s so willing to share her story.
5. Proactiv – This year my skin has been put through the hormonal ringer! It is in major protest right now and I decided to pull out the big guns. You all know I am an avid user of the Clarisonic that I recommend to every soul with skin, but I ordered proactiv this week, and even though I only started it last night, I’m already feeling better about my skin. I’m anxious to see if it’s the miracle I’ve been searching for. Have you tried proactiv? I’d love to hear about your experience with it.
This week I have really been focusing on my priorities. I know I blog about fashion sometimes or more material things, but this blog is really meant to be a lifestyle blog.. It’s truly my journal and the life we live. I don’t want it to get overtaken with the material things, because honestly, that’s just not me. I like to look nice, and I have fun dressing myself and my girls up from time to time, but it’s not what truly makes me happy in life. There are so many awesome blogs that will tell you all about the latest must-have gadgets and jewelry and clothing, but my blog here, it’s just a girl pouring her heart out to the world. While I’m writing this, I am in my sweats and my girls have locked themselves in the bathroom, just next door to my office, with the cat who I’m sure is not too happy about it.
I’m going to enjoy their ferocious giggles for another couple minutes before I go in to save him.

Katie, thanks so much for your kind words! I’m glad to hear I’m not alone in the constant struggle of finding balance. I’m glad you’re here! xoxo

Cassidy, I came across your blog via Cara’s blog, (which I love:)
Im very excited to dig into yours as well. I just wanted to give you another option if the proactiv does not work out for you. I too had a hormonal acne disaster two years ago and I tried everything, including proactiv. I kept googling acne trying desperately to figure out what was happening to my normally completely clear skin and the acne.org site kept coming up. http://www.acne.org/
I finally started reading it and ordered the products and my skin completely cleared up after a few months of following the ‘regimen’ as it is called. (It consists basically of a cleanser, benzoyl peroxide, and a moisturizer.)
I normally only lurk on blogs but I feel so passionate about this product. Let me know if you have any questions.
I am in no way affiliated with this company by the way. I live in the midwest, love God, am a mom of two, and really have an interest in skin care and cosmetics(hence my love of Cara’s blog)
I hope this helps you! I know how hard it is to struggle with skin issues:(

Hi Cassie!
I have sensitive dry skin but I am prone to acne. I used Proactiv for a year and it really does the trick on pimples, although it also really dries out the skin. So to counteract this drying, I religiously used Aveeno daily moisturizer. It’s hydrating but not thick, it really absorbs into the skin and you can put it on as many times as you like and your skin drinks it in.
I stopped using Proactiv because I am a student and have a budget. I immediately broke out in pimples! Just be careful that if you don’t use it on a schedule daily, you will break out. I now exclusively use Aveeno cleaners and moisturizers, and then a prescribed spot treatment for those pesky pimples.
