If there is one outfit that I wear more than any other, it’s a t-shirt and jeans. I try to stray outside the box, but I feel most comfortable in a t-shirt and jeans and I just can’t help it. In a hurry to get out the door (which I almost ALWAYS am) or a day filled with to-do lists, nothing sounds better to wear. I also like feeling put together and a t-shirt and jeans has a hard time accomplishing that all the time. You can go from comfy-casual to fashion victim in a hot minute.

Let’s focus a minute on the perfect t-shirt. It is next to impossible to find. If you have a favorite trusty tee, I MUST know about it. I recently bought a couple of THESE shirts at Old Navy. When I got home and tried them on, I immediately marched back to the store to buy every single color I could get my hands on. Seriously. If you find a t-shirt with a great fit for you, buy multiples! I like my t-shirts to be tighter in the bust line but a little flowy in the waist with a bit of a sleeve to them. I also insist my t-shirt hit at the top of my thigh. This cropped shirt non-sense does nothing for this short and curvy frame. My sister who is a head taller than me likes her shirts a little shorter than I do and she has the length to pull it off. If you’re short, I think a slightly longer tee will help even you out and not cut out any of that precious height. These specific shirts are my dream come true. (and check them out because they come in tons of cute colors and stripes!)

When I put on a t-shirt and jeans, I follow a few basic rules.

1. Hair – It might sound weird, but when I put my hair in a pony tail with jeans and a t, I feel like I’m ready to clean the garage. Since a t-shirt is already pretty casual, I like wearing my hair down so it keeps a bit of a balance. I know some people can pull off a perfectly tousled pony, but I am seriously not one of them.

2. Shoes – Along with keeping a balance for not being too casual, I don’t like to wear too casual of shoes like flip flops, or worse, tennis shoes. I like to either wear a heel or if I wear a flat, I wear something a little more dressy like a studded flat, or a statement color, or a leather sandal.

3. Accessories – A wise person once said you should always dress in layers. In the hotter months, this is harder to accomplish. Instead of layering fabrics, I layer in with accessories. A light scarf with some arm swag, a statement necklace and a ring, or in this case, layer in the gold. Nothing will make an outfit look and feel more put together than accessories. Trust me!

Is this outfit going to get me on the best dressed radar? No, probably not. Is it a look that I will use often and might as well perfect? Absolutely. I could easily go to the grocery store, to play date, to lunch date, to dance class in this outfit and feel totally comfortable the whole day. For me, that’s a winner. Got a hot date but you don’t have time to plan out an outfit in time to drop off the kids? Been there! Switch the jeans for a maxi and you’re as good as gold.

Do you have a favorite tee? What’s your favorite go-to outfit?

(If you’re wondering if I’m an affiliate for Old Navy, I’m not. But after the last few FF posts – HOT DANG, I should be! )

Happy Fashion Friday!
