Sometimes we have to do things we just simply don’t want to do.  Sometimes we have to be brave and do things we’re scared of.  Sometimes, when we gather up the courage to press forward, those things pay off.

Stella learned this lesson yesterday by going to the doctor.  All week long she was nervous about it and told me she didn’t want to go.  All week long, I was nervous about it, knowing she needed shots, and I didn’t want to go either.  I told Stella it was okay to feel nervous, but that she would be surrounded by her whole family to support her.  I told her she didn’t have anything to be scared of when we were all together.

She didn’t love getting weighed and measured at the beginning, but she quickly warmed right up to Dr. Marsden.  My girls are suckers for Dr. Marsden.

By the time it was time for her shots, Stella was totally comfortable.  I told her they had to put medicine in her legs and it would pinch for just a minute.  She didn’t seem bothered by the idea at all.  She cried for just a few seconds (enough time to thoroughly break my heart)  but was quickly mesmerized by the bright pink band-aids.  She was a brave girl and walked out of that doctor’s office holding her skirt up for everyone to see.

Stella got to pick any prize she wanted for being so good at the doctor.  Her wish was a pink snow cone, my kind of girl!

Last night and still today, she is milking her wounds for all it’s worth.  Every time I touch her, she says ” Mom! You touched my shot!” and limps around and tells me she can’t walk.. until she forgets and walks normal for a few minutes, then realizes it and starts limping again. 🙂 I think it’s safe to say she’s enjoyed the attention.

:: 3 year stats ::
Height – 38 in :: 74th percentile
Weight – 35 lbs :: 84th percentile (all in that belly)

She has vitiligo on her right hand (showed up around her first birthday)
Talks very much and very clear for her age, still has trouble with “R” sounds.
We started vaccines late, she’ll have one more shot at her 4-year check, and be on track for her kindergarten shots.
Is overall a very healthy 3-year-old girl!
(and a cute one at that)

I am such a proud mama of this brave little girl!  She did so much better than I thought she would.  It made me not hate my decision to wait on shots, I’d do it this way again.  Now, if you’ll excuse me, I will be nursing my little shot-ling back to health all day. 😉
