I’m feeling like a bit of a slacker-mom today.
I had such great plans for this lovely, lovers holiday.
This was the year I was going to start baking.
Which didn’t happen.
I was also going to make my girls darling, matching Valentines outfits.
And that didn’t happen.
I was going to help the girls make Daddy valentines cards.
And that didn’t happen.
I was going to take a darling picture of the girls to send out that said, “happy valentines day!”
But that didn’t happen, either.
I was going to make Harlo a super fun Valentines day lunch with heart shaped, strawberry jam sandwiches.
But she refused to eat lunch today.
I was going decorate the whole house in Valentines-y stuff for Harlo to wake up to.
That only sorta-happened.
I was going to door-bell ditch my lovers with the gifts at their doors.
But that didn’t really happen.
I was going to stay home from work today, doing all sorts of valentines-y type stuff and make a delicious dinner for my special valentines and get all dressed up with red lipstick and clean the house spick and span and set candle lights out on the table for all 4 of us to enjoy…
I was going to personalize our chalkboard with a fancy valentines themed one.
And that didn’t happen.
But what happened instead was,
last night after our special valentines date that we didn’t decide to go on until the last second so I had no make-up on and B wore a hat, we went to Target to get last-minute valentines for the girlies because I hadn’t made it there all week because I’m training someone at my job at the same time my babysitter quit so I can only work half days because of the naptimes when I really need to work full days. We picked the girls up and *DID* manage to remember their special v-day pajamas but only to quickly put them to bed because it was past their bedtime. Then I spent the rest of the night cutting out hearts out of scrap paper that I luckily had lying around the house, because along with not going to Target this week, I also did not go to Roberts or Pebbles to get real valentines paper. Then I set the kitchen table up with decor and valentines surprises and forgot to take a picture of it, and also forgot that I was really going to door-bell ditch Harlo’s room in the morning, instead of her coming out to get it. Then we all woke up a little late so I *nearly forgot to run out to watch Harlo open her valentines, and I did forget to take any pictures of the occasion. Then, instead of staying home all day, the poor girl who I am training for my job has kidney stones, so I had to go in to take care of some things, but I was unable to take care of them because Harlo wanted to keep rewinding her new valentines movie, “woody” and Stella didn’t know what she wanted, but anything I was doing was not it. So after that, I had to rush to meet Brady at the house and first stop at Swig to get him a Valentines coconut coke but instead I got it to him and it was a plain old diet coke. Lame. Well, Stella had fallen asleep in the car and slept for JUST enough time for me to get Harlo down. So when I was going to shine up the house, I instead had a grabby 6 month old at my hip. Then as soon as I got Stella settled with Baby Einstein so I could start dinner, Harlo woke up and needed a valentines snack, which I *DID manage to get in successfully. So I had picked out a new recipe that sounded like something Brady would like and it was just a smidgen out of my comfort zone. Then Stella went into full-on disaster-mode for the rest of the time, so when dinner should have been done, it was really just getting started. So Brady, instead of coming home to a nice, clean hosue with a candlight dinner and snazzy wife to great him at the door, he came into “will you take her? I need to get dinner started.. can you change her? After that will you come in here and check hte noodles? I need to get this chicken on. Oh! Grab that, it’s boiling over. Step over all this tupperware on the kitchen floor and don’t slip or drop Stella. Babe! Don’t set that there , the burner is hot. Here, just get out of the kitchen. Take the girls.” Then as soon as dinner was hot and ready, STella was FINALLY read to eat, so I fed her while everyone waited and our dinner cooled. Then I went to lay the FINALLY sleeping Stella down and Harlo followed me in there to yell at just the perfect time, “IS STELLA SLEEPIN?” which after, STella was NOT sleeping. Which made me for a very unhappy lady. So while I choked back tears and tried to swallow my dinner that did not turn out. I decided to give up on expectations of the day. There were a few minor highlights to the day, though. And even though it was crazy madness.. I didn’t realize how much of a disaster it was until I sat down to write about it!

HIGHLIGHT: Harlo’s fancy Valentines snack that she thought was AWESOME. (Mom! I want more str-bry-hearts)
(she also thought the real paper hearts looked delicious, and tried to eat two.)

And when I came back from getting Valentines Swigs that were a bust, I came home to these, a HANDWRITTEN card and a box of choclates wrapped in beautiful pink paper and a pink bow.
Oh that Mr. Miller…
Then, after nap time we had special valentines visitors who did successfully doorbell ditch us with presents at our door, but then came back for some quick lovins.
Nana saves the day again, Got both my girls Valentines shirts she brought on Friday so we’d have them in time, brought Valentines trickers for both girls (bags of treats and fun straws and the CUTEST book ever that’s personalized with their picture in it.) Also a clove of garlic for my pasta that I had forgotten about. AND red velvet came for the mama because a. she knows it’s my very very favorite ever, and b. because she must have somehow known the day I would have and that I would NEED it after bedtime. šŸ™‚ (it is probably my favorite part of valentines so far. for real.)
Harlo didn’t know what to think about a whole bag of treats all to herself!

So, glad it happened? Yes. Glad it’s over? YES.
